My Top 10 Postpartum Products

Postpartum is a delicate time when a women is at her most raw and vulnerable, because you just gave BIRTH! As empowering and positive a birthing experience can be, having our postpartum plan and products in place ready for action makes a huge difference and benefit to ourselves, our body and being able to look after ourselves! Having a doula or not, these products helped me and what I believe helped my postpartum journey!

  1. TENS MACHINE  - I HIGHLY recommend a Tens machine not only for labour but for post partum to aid in the recovery with the non-avoidable after birth pains ! I used my TENS machine over my hire period to assist with pain management while the uterus contracts itself back down to pre pregnancy size, As you breastfeed – Oxytocin “the love hormone” is released into your body , Oxytoncin assists with bonding with your precious baby as well as aiding contractions to bring your uterus back to pre pregnancy size ! this process can be painful but it means your body is doing as it should , The TENS once again “covers” that pain ! I found I was able to breastfeed for longer with the TENS machine as it was such a versatile drug free pain relief that could move whenever I went x

  2. mesh undies - COMFORT OVER LOOKS!! – We all want to look decent postpartum, social media sure has shown us what we think were supposed to look like !
But when they tell you dignity goes with your birth, look they’re not entirely wrong!
Mesh Undies were such a brilliant post partum product for me , they were loose, thin and not too much pressure on your tender tummy ! The hospital supplied large maxi pads which sat on the inside of the mesh undies, held the pad in place & took care of business while allowing you to feel confident that though postpartum is our fourth trimester and its not “all over yet” , we can feel as much comfort as possible

  3. sitz bath / peri bottle  - I remember when I had my baby preterm , My hospital bag was packed but I was waiting on my delivery of my peri bottle ! My SITZ bath arrived the morning before I was due to go in for “monitoring” after PPROM. Funny that * eye roll* lol
After giving birth I asked the midwives to get one of those squeeze bottles I saw that were stocked up in bulk in the medical supply room on the maternity ward.I was declined this postpartum product so the sitz bath came out ! The sitz bath sat in the toilet bowl filled with fresh luke warm water, it took away the sting of that first wee after giving birth and then simply emptied by being poured into the toilet bowl when you’re done ! Sitz baths will be part of abit of TLC product purchase options. I used this for an entire week ! Not only just for the toilet trips but when you just want to freshen up or when it’s time to change a pad but can’t wipe and don’t have that time for an entire shower, the sitz bath is a brilliant  easy and quick way to clean your perineum area allowing you to feel fresh , pain management & decreasing the risk of infection !

  4. witch hazel wipes – When you heal about a week or two postpartum , I personally found I was able to “touch” the perineum area, This allowed me to use wipes to freshen up, not just any wipes but witch hazel wipes ! witch hazel is known for it healing properties, soothing and reducing vaginal swelling, it also assist with haemorrhoids which can also happen due to pregnancy and childbirth .
Abit of TLC aims to stock wholesale of this product with future plans to create our own signature wipes !

  5. hand held fan ( postpartum sweats are real!!!!) As your body goes through so many hormonal changes post partum , the post partum sweats can be uncomfortable , I found when I was feeding I would get so hot but having a simple fan to hold that wouldn’t annoying baby feeding & enough to give me relief was so helpful ! Not only was my hand held fan amazing for postpartum but was a tool for my partner to use to help me when you may get hot during labour !

  6. Crystals I felt drawn to Postpartum and why I worked with them ! Malachite is known for the stone of transformation , to assist with my transformation from maiden to mother  (always wash hands after working with malachite). Bloodstone known for – being the blood cleanser and a healing stone, boosting the immune system and helping the body fight against infections and diseases. Carnelian flame known for it’s healing for the lower chakras , using the flame cut carnelian I would lay in bed and have the carnelian at my ankles directing it energy to my lower chakra point’s like the base chakra to help feeling safe, trauma healing vitality and energy levels during early postpartum

  7. supportive belly band  - Supportive garmets were SO important to me postpartum after I learnt that your joints and muscles are all so loose for weeks after giving birth, The garmet’s assist your pelvic floor recovery, Abs separation healing & support your belly ! I found wearing a garmet helped my recovery and supported my body as it healed and transitioned to pre-pregnancy state and positioning .

  8. pre affirmation board for home – You can have all the medical supplies and products in the world but did you think of your future postpartum self , on a mental scale , yes a doula can assist mum on an emotional and mental level but when the doula goes home & finalises her services what do you have in place for those tough night or days , creating your postpartum affirmation board is a gift to your future self past pregnant yourself , she is oh so proud of you and all you achieved and you need to remember that on your harder days when your hormones are raging  ! It is a gift that keeps on giving when you need it most, simply look up and remember that YOU believe in yourself! (Abit of TLC will have a Pregnancy / Labour and PostPartum affirmation poster available for download/purchase )

  9. button down PJ’s – The BEST clothing you can wear PP is a breastfeeding friendly bra & Pj’s! I bought 4 button down soft shirts because easy and fast access to the breast for baby is the best for mum and baby, When a baby cries , our mum brains go into high alert , we need to get out boob out and fast!! I am all for breastfeeding in public spaces but if you are still finding your groove, plan to breastfeed infront of guests that you feel comfortable having in YOUR postpartum space , it allows you to feel confident in breastfeeding baby without having to move your arms in uncomfortable psotions to get that shirt over your chest ! (Abit of tlc aims to have a BF friendly postpartum shirt available within 6 months time )

  10. An amazing chiropractor you trust to assist with your recover postpartum and transtion of the body. A chiro isn’t a product, but it is a treatment service that I believe was absolutely crucial for me through pregnancy right through to postpartum!
My chiropractor worked with my body as it changed and transformed during pregnancy , aiding in body and pelvic mobility , pain management and supported my body with pelvic floor strengthening and pubic symphysis diastasis , not only for the physical but I feel like a good chat on a fortnightly schedule with my chiro helped me on a huge mental level, I felt so seen and heard by my amazing friend and having someone who was my almost doula helped heal my heart as she assisted in healing my physical body.
